DHS chief: 21 states sought help over election hacking concerns

Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson on Saturday said 21 states have sought “cyber-security assistance” from his agency over concerns about hackers accessing their electoral systems.

In a statement, Johnson lauded congressional leaders who had penned a letter on Friday urging state elections officials to boost their cyber defenses.“We must remain vigilant and continue to address these challenges head on,” Johnson said. “Before November 8, I urge state and local election officials to seek our cyber-security assistance. So far, 21 states have contacted us about our services. We hope to see more.”
