You’re not just moving data; you’re rebuilding an entire ecosystem of trust and verification. To achieve full traceability for an AI-driven decision, you need a transparent, unbroken chain of custody. This starts with the model’s provenance—where did it come from, what data was it trained on? From there, every single prompt and output must be logged and protected with robust data loss prevention. It also demands a human in the loop; there must be a system for human adjudication when a citizen is impacted. It’s about ensuring that true sovereignty isn’t just knowing where your data is, but having absolute authority over who holds the keys and how the algorithms function.

In the U.S. and Europe, this level of accountability would manifest as real, personal consequences for the C-suite. We’re talking about direct impacts on career progression and, in some jurisdictions, even personal liability. The old narrative of a CISO being more desirable after a breach because they’re “battle-tested” will flip. Second, implement a zero-trust network architecture, so that even if a device is on the “trusted” office network, its access is still rigorously controlled and verified. The “single pane of glass” was always more of a marketing dream than a reality. It promised a unified view but often delivered a clunky, slow, and incomplete picture. The “shattered glass” model embraces the distributed, chaotic nature of modern IT. For an analyst, the daily workflow is transformed from passive monitoring to active engineering. Instead of waiting for a log search to finish over coffee, they are immediately diving into high-context results, armed with autonomous agents and data pipelines. Their primary interface is a virtual “workbench”—a headless, API-driven environment where they build resilient, vendor-agnostic detection logic. The SOC becomes less of a monitoring station and more of an engineering factory. The main challenge is building the connective tissue: the knowledge graph. Integrating identity data, asset inventories, and security telemetry in real-time from dozens of disparate sources is a massive data engineering problem. It requires a sophisticated, API-driven architecture that can normalize, correlate, and present this information in a way that both humans and machines can act on instantly.
A lack of “crypto agility” is cited as a major future security failure. What does crypto agility mean in practice for an enterprise, and what are the initial, concrete steps an organization should take to inventory its cryptographic assets and begin piloting Post-Quantum Cryptography?
Crypto agility is the ability to rapidly and seamlessly switch out your cryptographic algorithms and protocols without breaking everything. It’s the opposite of having fixed-function security hardcoded into your systems. The terrifying reality is that many systems being deployed today will still be in operation when quantum-era attacks become viable, and they simply cannot evolve. The lack of this agility is a ticking time bomb. In practice, achieving it means treating your cryptographic components like modular, replaceable parts. The first, most critical step is a comprehensive inventory. You cannot protect what you do not know you have. Organizations must begin a hands-on discovery process to find every certificate, every key, and every hardcoded algorithm across their entire enterprise. With that inventory in hand, the next step is to begin piloting Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) in controlled, non-production environments. With NIST having locked in core PQC standards, the time for waiting is over. Action is now paramount.
What is your forecast for the evolution of AI-driven cyber threats?
My forecast is that AI will be the great accelerator. The bubble of market hype around AI will likely pop and correct, but the technology itself is here to stay and will penetrate every facet of cybersecurity. For attackers, it will dramatically lower the barrier to entry for sophisticated attacks and enable a new level of speed and scale in finding and exploiting vulnerabilities. However, the paradox is that for all this futuristic capability, most successful exploits will still prey on the same old weaknesses: unpatched systems, poor configurations, and human error. On the defensive side, AI is already becoming essential in SecOps, helping analysts sift through mountains of data to find the real threats. But it’s not a panacea. It won’t reduce the number of incidents overnight. Instead, it will raise the stakes, making the fundamentals of cybersecurity—patching, resilience, and user education—more critical than ever before. The future is a high-speed, AI-augmented battlefield where the quickest and most agile will win.
