Craigslist Targeted: Killers Reaching Innocents

Craigslist - KillerCraigslist is an online network comprising of employers, business owners and service providers, advertising services and selling things. There are sections for jobs, classified, real estate and more. Craigslist allow users to post adz to purchase and sell number of things on the website, and users can interact and work accordingly.

Craigslist is used by people from all walks of life and bad guys are using similar online networking sites to search people. Infact some suspects have also accused of murdering people who were contacted through Craiglist – commonly termed as Craigslist killers.

A popular story regarding Craiglist Killer is of Michael John Anderson who accused for killing Katherine Ann Olson in 2009 and it was first time that someone was titled as Craigslist killer. Anderson posted fake advertisement on Craigslist for the service of nanny and Olson offered her service, and exchanged emails with Anderson. When Olson arrived at his parent’s house, he shot her in back with .357 magnum and put her body in truck and drove the car to Burnsville Nature Preserve. He was found guilty of first degree murder and was sentenced to life in October 2005.

Internet and social networking sites have allowed online users to interact with people over long distances, remain connected with friends and find resources. However, bad guys are getting social through these social networks. Infact popular social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter have also become target in number of cases.

There are also some other shocking stories regarding Craigslist including Phillip Markoff – film as Craigslist killer released in 2011. Phillip Markoff allegedly committed crime, jailed in Nashua Jail and committed suicide in August 10, 2010. He also robbed three women who posted advertisement on Craigslist. Phillip Markoff also shot a drug counselor named Julissa Brisman at Marriot Copley Place Hotel in April 2009.
