Kids and FacebookSocial networking is a great way to connect with friends and remain updated with latest news happening of your interest. But on the other hand it is also found to harm school children both mentally and physically. School children need physically activities that are healthy for both mind and body and hence it is important for them to involve in sport activities. By getting addicted to social networks their interest in sport activities drops significantly.

According to a research conducted by Dr. Larry Rosen, professor of Psychology at California State University in Dominguez Hill, students who are addicted to video games are more likely to suffer depression, anxiety, stomach aches and have difficulty sleeping. He presented his research at American Psychological Association convention.

Dr Rosen also revealed some useful facts about effects of social networks on school children. He suggested that children who spend more time on Facebook than other kids are observed to be more psychological imbalanced and they are more likely to miss school. He also suggested that teens addicted to Facebook have higher chances of drinking alcohol.

He also pointed out some important points regarding teens using Facebook. He told the audience that teens check their Facebook updates every few minutes while attending class, which shifts their attention during lecture. Also teens relying on text messages to stay connected with friends face difficulty communicating with family members.

However he also found during his research that social networks have also proven to be a useful tool for teachers. Dr. Rosen also suggests parents to listen to their children instead of keeping eye on computer screen and giving lectures. He added that parents should do more listening than lecturing.
